The Art Framers

History

The Artframers was established by Andrew Stevenson and Liam Murphy in 2010. They found themselves inhabiting neighbouring studio spaces at the Outpost Studios in Norwich. As they were both running a small framing business alongside their art practice, an alliance was formed. This alliance eventually became 'theartframers'.

It very soon became apparent to both that the needs of the artists around them were very different to the needs of what you might call 'the average customer'. Since Liam and Andrew were also operating without a shop front, theartframers had to use other organisations and shopfronts to find work. The combination of these two factors has led to theartframers developing a different approach to picture framing..

As they began to find other people to take orders on their behalf and to act as a shopfront, theartframers also began to get involved in various ways with these other 'host' organisations. It was soon clear that many of them needed some support to deal with taking orders for picture framing and dealing with customers etc. Small business owners such as photographers, gift shop owners and galleries were happy to extend their customer base and profits but did not want to have to spend hours in doing so...

In response to these and other needs, theartframers have devised a two day course for anyone wanting to offer a framing service without needing to service a full framing workshop. Over and above this theartframers offers an ongoing service to their customers enabling them to offer bespoke framing to their customers at much less expense and therefore with much greater profit.

We offer an opprtunity to artists to attend our courses at reduced rates with a view to leasing the workshop and making their own frames.

We are also able to work with anyone who is thinking of starting a new business exclusively in picture framing and can offer a very cost effective solution to small businesses, profit and not for profit organisations, who would like to expand their portfolio of services to include picture framing.

Our courses are aimed at anyone with an interest in picture framing but we are able to offer special discounts to artists groups wanting to hire the facilities and possibly do their own framing work....

Formed by Andrew Stevenson and Liam Murphy in 2010, theartframers now work out of a custom built workshop on a beautiful small estate in Ringland, Norfolk. There are many great amenities nearby including the Norfolk Showground, Golf Courses, Fishing and Bird-watching. There are numerous walks on the farm itself and in surrounding areas. Accommodation may be available onsite by prior arrangement.

Liam and Andrew have around 20 years experience of framing between them. theartframers client list includes names like Maggi Hambling, John Hoyland, Peter Lanyon, Leonora Carrington, John Kiki, alongside many other talented local artists. Other 'blue chip' clients have included the NHS, Gallery 1821, The Forum Trust Norwich and SCOPE.
