Art History

Course Aims:
To give the student a broad knowledge base of the development of painting from the Renaissance to the present day through a program of both theoretical and practical study.

Course Content:
The course is based around a series of formal, but intimate, lectures supported by group tutorials. This is then underpinned by a series of associated practical sessions where students would be able to develop their own drawing and painting skills informed by their theoretical knowledge. The course is delivered by experienced lecturers who teach both art theory and practice on full-time courses within the College.

Progression:
Students who achieve success in this course may progress to advanced courses in painting and drawing at Level Two and, ultimately, may progress to a full-time Diploma course or even be considered for access to higher education to study Fine Art or associated disciplines.

NCFE

Exam:
Assessment is via submission of a suitable practical portfolio and evidence of research.

Qualification:
NCFE Level One Certificate in Creative Craft.

Notes:

This is an exciting and stimulating new course for students who have a passion for art history. It is aimed at students who are occasional or regular visitors to art galleries and museums and wish to develop their theoretical and practical knowledge further. The course is delivered by experienced lecturers who teach both art theory and practice on full-time courses within the College.

Other Costs:
Students will have full access to extensive library, information technology and research facilities at the College. However, students will be expected to provide basic art materials for the duration of the practical sessions of the course. Normal NCFE exam fees apply.

Duration:
60 hours over 24 weeks.
