About this course
The entry requirements are as for all advanced courses, including grade B or above in Art or Textiles at GCSE or a merit or above in BTEC First Diploma in Art.

Where does it lead?
Signifcant numbers of students continue their studies through foundation courses and specialist degrees. Recent students have studied costume design, fashion, knit, weave, printed textiles, and fashion illustration. Some are engaged in degree courses outside the Art area, for example in History, Politics, Economics and English.
Other information
Regular visits are made to galleries and museums in London, as well as trips to Barcelona, Venice, Florence, or Paris. Students have access to the Art Enrichment programme of visits and talks from practising artists.

Art - Textiles provides a fantastic opportunity to explore colour, texture and imagery. The subject at Varndean is taught by practising artists whose work is shown nationally and internationally. Our well-equipped specialist studio allows you to work with a wide range of processes; hand and machine stitching, printing, dyeing, constructed textiles, shibori, jewellery, garment production and fabric manipulation using traditional and unconventional materials.
AS and A2 Art " Textiles units of work allow you to explore a variety of ways of working in real depth. You will learn how to record your experiences and observations, develop a theme, investigate ideas and research the work of other artists and designers. Examples of project titles include -Translucency , -Identity and -Faded Glories . From common starting points students move of in individual directions and as the course moves forward, projects are negotiated between students and experienced supportive tutors. At the end of each year an externally set assignment gives you the opportunity to demonstrate all your creative abilities
