Course programme

The large group will meet on the following dates from 6-7.30pm: 17th September 2018*. 8th October 2018. 12th November 2018. 10th December 2018. 14th January 2019. 11th February 2019. 11th March 2019. 13th May 2019. 10th June 2019. *Please note that the first session will include an introductory lecture, so will be from 6-9pm. All participants have in common that they share an experience of the social and political world, its events and its institutions as they do the natural world and its mutability. However, individuals and groups of people experience this differently according to how they are situated in the world. The course is premised on the understanding that the boundaried space of the Art Therapy Large Group, where art materials are provided, allows these differences to be expressed and explored both verbally and non-verbally. The group, as a microcosm of society, thus becomes an arena in which we create and reflect on the development of an inclusive world.
This course, which draws on innovative research at Goldsmiths, is designed to be of interest for a wide range of people working in the helping professions as well as to people interested in the arts and performance, politics, community and psychotherapy. Previous experience of Art Therapy is not necessary.
