The focus will be on how we can accomplish the task set forth in the
early pages of the Perls, Hefferline, and Goodman (1951 pp.11-25)--of
making contact with the actual living of our clients, and how that
contact brings about fundamental changes in how that living is
organized and, consequently, in their behaviour.
This theoretical orientation guides how Sylvia herself works with
clients, individually and in groups.
Her workshops are about 25% didactic and 75% experiential, and include
one-on-one demonstrations, dramatic dreamwork, as well as attention to
the group dynamics.
The Course Tutor in her own words:
I have given training workshops and conference presentations both in
the United States and in several other countries.
I have published a number of articles in Gestalt journals, including
one on dramatic dreamwork in the GANZ JOURNAL in Autumn 2007.
My book, “A WELL-LIVED LIFE: ESSAYS IN GESTALT THERAPY”, was published
by the GIC Press in 1999 and is now in its third printing.
For the past two years I have engaged in an intensive study of
Husserl's phenomenology and Gestalt therapy's version of it. My paper
on this topic will appeared in the British Gestalt Journal in the
summer of 2009.
I am currently writing papers on field theory, couple therapy, and a
book on dramatic Gestalt dreamwork.
I trained with Erving and Miriam Polster and at the Gestalt Therapy
Institute of Los Angeles both in LA and in several countries in Europe.
My Ph.D. is in philosophy and I also have an M.A. in comparative
religion and an M.S, in counselling.
I have a private practice in the USA.
