What is Fine Art?
Fine Art is the name given to what most people mean when they talk about 'Art' - painting, drawing, sculpture etc.
What kind of work will I do?
You will use a range of techniques and materials and study the work of the great artists.

You will be exploring:

· Painting, drawing and printmaking, where we encourage a wide variety of approaches

· Gaining a knowledge and understanding of paint qualities, the formal elements and a range of media and styles in drawing, painting and printmaking

· Studying Art History and current art practice (where you will record your observations, analyse and evaluate the work of other artists in your personal work journal). During their second year, students are required to write a 1,000 - 3,000 word extended essay on the work of the artists

· Problem solving within Fine Art, which may involve the use of colour to explore mood, the creation of movement, or the difficulties in combining several materials in an artwork

An externally set assignment will represent the culmination of the Fine Art course. By this time, students will have developed a personal style and be able to integrate sensitively the processes, practices and theories developed during the two year course.
Progression
This course provides a sound basis for progression onto a wide range of Art & Design degree courses available at local and national higher education institutions. Professional artists are regularly invited in to visit the College to talk about their careers, exhibiting and selling work. Qualifications and training can lead to careers in specific disciplines such as fine art practice, illustration, art history, teaching, community arts or the wider arena of gallery work, art therapy or architecture.
