In addition, the course examines the audience debates and issues, how the media select and address their audience, as well as the role of stereotyping, ideology and the use of semiotics. This is not a media production course, but there is a production element, in that the students will be.

'AS' and 'A2' Level Media Studies

Duration: AS 1 year, A2 2 years
Course Level: Level 3
Media Studies is an 'A' Level course and will be taken in conjunction with other 'A' Level subjects. It is mainly an analytical course that gives students the opportunity to study the contribution mass media makes to the understanding of the world in which we live.
Armed with the analytical tools needed, the students will produce two pieces of coursework, from a set brief. These will include a moving image and a print based document.

What will I study?
Students study a range of media including:
· Advertising
· Newspapers
· Magazines
· Radio
· Television
In addition, the course examines the audience debates and issues, how the media select and address their audience, as well as the role of stereotyping, ideology and the use of semiotics.
This is not a media production course, but there is a production element, in that the students will be required to use Adobe Premier and Photoshop for the coursework elements.

What next?
This programme complements many other subjects such as English, Performing Arts, Sociology, and Psychology. Past students have gone on to study Media related Degrees at university such as Journalism and Cultural Studies.
