AS / A2 Digital Photography

WHY TAKE DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY?
The main purpose of the course, like any course in art and design, is to develop your ability to appreciate the visual world, respond in a personal and creative way and produce a unique creative response through digital photographs.

WHAT ARE THE KEY AREAS OF STUDY?
You will develop a varied and working knowledge of materials, practices and technology within photography and art and design. You will develop the skills to interpret and convey your ideas, feelings and knowledge, using paper and digital techniques. You will develop your creative powers and your experimental, analytical and documenting skills. You will develop a specialist vocabulary and the knowledge and understanding of the place of art, design and photography in history and contemporary practice.

WHAT SKILLS WILL I NEED AND DEVELOP?
If you are entranced by visual images and you are creative and enjoy using the computer then this is the course for you. You should also be prepared to develop your responses outside the classroom, using the studio time to digitally enhance and manipulate your images to dramatic, creative effect.

HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?
The AS and A2 courses comprise two units each - coursework units and end of course exam projects. You will produce preparatory work, initial ideas, developmental work and a final piece in response to a theme set by yourself or your tutor. Your work journal or visual notebook will provide the core evidence for each unit and you will be expected to include notes and comments on your own work and that of others.

PRIESTLEY EXTRA
As well as research trips and gallery visits, we invite speakers from universities and from industry to talk to you about career possibilities. So if you enjoy being creative, are hard working, have a keen interest in photography and want to learn how to use industry standard photo manipulation software, then choose AS and A2 Digital photography.
