Who is the course for?
The course is for anyone wanting to develop their knowledge of Photography, pursue a University education or develop
a career in Photography or a related subject.

What is the course about?
The course is a modular programme, offering the opportunity of in-depth study into the area of photography and digital
imaging. You will study both traditional photography (with darkroom techniques) and digital photography using the digital imaging suite to develop image manipulation and digital design techniques.

You will be taught the basic understanding of design principles and skills required for the conception of initial ideas through to the finished products. Alongside the core photography units you will cover the History of Art & Design (including studies of photographers) Printing, Drawing and Sketchbook development and Computers in Art & Design.

Assignments are varied and creative and aim to develop an awareness of the photography industry. There are field trips and exhibitions throughout the course along with talks from photographers and industry specialists.

Will I need anything else?
You will be expected to provide a basic art kit containing a range of art equipment, a sketchbook and plastic portfolio. A list will be given to you at interview. You may also be required to purchase specialist materials for your project work.

How long & often do I attend?
This course is offered as a two year substantial programme and requires attendance of several lectures, practical
sessions and workshops per week. Additional time will also need to be spent by the students in carrying out project
work and to complete research. You will be required to maintain a minimum attendance of 80%.

How will I be assessed?
Assessment is continuous. You will be marked on both practical and written project work, which will provide the
evidence on which your grades will be based. There is no formal exam at the end of the course.

What opportunities will this lead to?
You could progress to University to study a BA hons degree or HND in Photography, Digital Imaging or Art and Design.
You could enter employment as a photographer, photographers assistant or as a freelance worker.
