AS/A2 Physical Education

PE is a subject for the good all rounder! In the AS year you will study three theoretical areas and a range of practical activities. The theory areas, although more in depth, follow on from those that you might have studied at GCSE. You will study anatomy and physiology (the biology bit), skill acquisition (the psychology bit) and contemporary studies (the socio-cultural bit). These will each be taught for an hour a week, with two hours being put aside for the practical classes, where you will experience a range of sports and activities and be assessed in two.
The format is exactly the same for the A2 year where you will study exercise physiology, psychology of sport and the history of sport and PE. Again, two hours are put aside for practical assessments.
ENTRY RECOMMENDATIONS:
Grade C in English and Science and demonstrated competence in P.E.
ASSESSMENT:
External examinations, practical assessment and coursework.
PROGRESSION:
Teaching, coaching, sports development, leisure management. Also useful for entry into physiotherapy.
