Course Summary:
The full-time Sport Development, Coaching and Fitness Diploma at Nescot College is a 2-year course aimed at students with an interest in sport. This course is ideal for you if you want to gain a qualification to go into employment with the sport, coaching or health and fitness industries, or on to a sports-related Higher Education course at NESCOT or other institutions.
The course contains a mixture of theoretical lessons and practical sessions in the gym or sports hall. Learning will be via lectures, group work, workshops, discussion groups and practical sessions. Throughout the course additional activities and qualifications will also be undertaken. We cater for a wide range of sports which include rugby, basketball, tennis, hockey, badminton and women's football and we ensure that the course offers unique units such as Sport and Exercise Massage to give you a rounded education for future employment and education.
We have a men's College football squad plus a wide range of sporting and enrichment activities.
Sporting ability is not a requirement for this course, but an interest in sport is essential.

All units are assessed individually through assignments, presentations and practical assessment during the course based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands which are set and marked by both internal and external moderators. Nescot reserves the right to change these units as the course demands
Additional Activities and Qualifications:
- FA Level 1 Certificate in Coaching Football
(incorporates FA Emergency Aid - Award and Child Protection Certificate) or the option of a National Governing Body Coaching Awards (e.g. basketball, badminton, rugby or netball)
- First Aid Course
- Two week work placement in the Sport, Coaching or Health and Fitness Industry
- YMCA Certificate in Fitness Instructing
- High ropes course activity day
An additional funding contribution will be required towards the cost of the additional qualifications undertaken during the course.
Career Progression:
Students can progress to the Foundation Degree in Sports Therapy at NESCOT or move on to other Higher Education courses including Sports Science, Sports Coaching and Sports Studies at other academic institutions.
Successful students can seek employment opportunities in the Sports Coaching, Recreation and Health and Fitness industries.

Additional Material Fees: 150
You will be provided with all the resources and materials needed for your programme. However, we have found in the past that learners purchase additional items and by buying in bulk we can gain a good discount. Therefore additional material fees are expected to be paid at enrolment to cover the following:
- Department sports kit
- Core course text book
- Individual unit trips
- Level 1 coaching qualification
- First Aid qualification
NB: In the 2nd Year of the course we will require the 50 to cover the following:
- YMCA registration fee
- Additional unit trips
Students eligible for EMA should also apply for a Learner Support Grant before the start of the course. The money is allocated generally on a first-come first-served basis.
