Why choose Computing?
This course provides an ideal foundation for Computer Science or related subjects at university, or as the basis for a career in the more technical aspects of ICT. Whatever your IT background, if you have a desire to dig deeper into the internal workings of the computer then this is the course for you.


Which course do I choose?
AS or A2 Computing provides an excellent grounding for students wanting to study Computer Science or other technical subjects at university. It combines well with Maths, any of the three Sciences or Electronics.

AS or A2 Applied ICT Single Award is a useful course for anybody who will be using computers in their future careers. It combines well with any other subject.


Resources and Facilities
Four teaching rooms equipped with modern hardware and software. A drop-in study area equipped with computers is also available to Computing and ICT students.


Teaching and Learning Styles
Normally two theory and two practical lessons each week.
Practical lessons include programming basics, creating software solutions and coursework.
Theory lessons include topics such as systems analysis, programming languages, computer hardware, networks and data transmission.


Assessment
Successful projects in the past have dealt with subjects such as theatre booking, holiday entitlement for employees, stock control and a database producing reports for school children.


Progression Opportunities
Most of our students will go on to study either Computer Science or a related subject at university.
