Why choose Spanish?
Spanish, the first language of 22 nations and 300 million people, is developing rapidly as a language of increasing importance here in Britain, not only because of the many links through tourism but also because of the development of Spain as an important European Union trading nation and improved relations with Spanish-speaking countries in South America.
It is possible to study for GCSE, AS and A level. As a beginner it is possible to gain an A level at the end of the second year.

Teaching and Learning Styles
In all courses most of the work is done in the foreign language and frequent use is made of a modern course book, newspapers, magazines and films in producing an authentic and contemporary picture of Spain and Latin America. At least one lesson per week in each course will take place in the language centre. There will also be a weekly lesson with a Spanish native speaker.
Extra-Curricular Activities
Students have the opportunity to participate in an exchange with a school in Spain in order to improve their fluency and listening skills. Some of the exchange activities directly aim to support the AS and A level syllabus.
Assessment
Four units to be taken, two at AS level and two at A2, in reading, listening, speaking and writing skills. A2 level includes options in cultural studies.
Progression Opportunities
Many students go on to study a degree in which Spanish is a major or minor component. Combinations such as Law, Business Studies or History are excellent both at A level and university. Fluency in the language will increase the opportunities of working in one of the Spanish-speaking countries.
