Brief Description of the Course:

This is an entry 2 course offered over 3.5 days per week. The content has been developed around preparation of life and work, including independent living and personal and social development. The course is aimed at young people with moderate learning difficulties. As well as work at college and on the practical units at Myerscough, the course includes many outside visits to compliment the community awareness aspect of the course and includes using the college gym on a regular basis together with learning basic cookery skills.

Entry Criteria:

Students need to be over 16 and have an interest in a practical subject to qualify for the course. No previous qualifications are required. The College provides learning support for those who have learning difficulties and disabilities

List of Units:

The course is made up of a range of units covering the following areas:

¨ Independent Living

¨ Personal and Social Development

¨ Community Awareness

¨ Personal Safety

¨ Preparation for Work

One day per week involves working on the vocational elements which are:

¨ Gardening

¨ Farm studies

¨ Small animals as Pets

Normal practice is for students to study one of the above vocational elements per term.

Progression:

Following successful completion of this course it may be possible to progress to ASDAN Entry Level 3 Diploma, or onto one of our Skills for Working Life courses.

Special Requirements:

1 Specialist Clothing and Equipment: Suitable outdoor clothing and footwear for practical elements. Suitable clothing and footwear for sporting activities

2 Minimum Age: 16 Years Old
