Entry Requirements
You need have occupational competence in the area you wish to assess. This is usually demonstrated through holding a qualification at level 3 or above in the area of work you wish to assess. You will normally need access to at least two candidates to complete assessment practice in order to gain the qualification. You will need to be working with another assessor who can countersign your decisions. If you are new to assessing or hope to become an assessor but are not yet able to carry out real assessments you are able to complete the underpinning knowledge and understanding unit, Level 3 Award in Understanding the Principles and Practices of Assessment on its own and will not need access to candidates to assess.

Summary
For practitioners who assess knowledge and/or skills in vocationally-related subject areas who use the following assessment methods: assessments in simulated environments, skills tests, oral and written questions, assignments, projects, case studies and RPL. This may take place in training workshops, classrooms or other learning environments.
