The world's first "CubeSat" type artificial satellite "LituanicaSAT-2" produced in Lithuania was launched into space on 23 June 2017. One of the main objectives of this project was to test the innovative management system. The satellite developers team included VGTU Antanas Gustaitis' Aviation Institute graduates, who have crossed the limits of traditional thinking and aimed directly into space.
Aviation Mechanics Engineering study programme is intended for those who are interested in the development and/or maintenance of aircrafts and are fascinated by aircraft mechanics, its design, engines, systems, and aerodynamic qualities.
Two aviation mechanics engineering directions are naturally distinguished in the course of studies, i.e. aircraft design and construction and aircraft maintenance.
Future aircraft constructors acquire knowledge and skills in the design and construction of various types of aircrafts, from the unmanned aerial vehicles that fit into one's palm to launch vehicle, or carrier rocket.
Future aircraft mechanics acquire necessary skills for the elimination of any aircraft failure. However, the most important thing is that they gain comprehensive knowledge to carry out aircraft inspections and verification to ensure the uninterrupted flights. They are able to independently solve complex aircraft construction and engines engineering tasks. In Lithuania, VGTU graduates have an opportunity to work with the major manufacturers' aircrafts, such as Boeing or Airbus.
