B.A. Early Childhood Studies (Hons)

Course Content Year 1 You explore fundamental themes including learning through play; child health and well-being; studying and learning in Higher Education; international perspectives of early years; child development; social inclusion and special needs. Year 2 In your second year you will examine themes such as communication in early years; safeguarding and interprofessional working; and research methods. This year also offers an opportunity to study abroad as part of the programme. Year 3 In year 3 you cover policy and practice in EY education; leadership and management in children’s workforce; creativity in education; intercultural constructs of childhood; and an independent research dissertation which focuses on your own particular professional and theoretical interests.

Additionally you have the opportunity to study toward Forest School certification, which allows you to facilitate children’s learning experiences in outdoor contexts.
