About this course
To be accepted onto the course you must be employed as a teacher/trainer in the post compulsory sector and be contracted to teach a minimum of 150 hours (75 minimum per academic year). Applicants must also hold (as a minimum) a level 3 qualification in the subject that they wish to teach. Applicants for the PGCE will need a first degree.

MODULES Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector Planning and Enabling Learning Enabling Learning and Assessment Theories and Principles for Planning and Enabling Learning Continuing and Personal and Professional Development Curriculum Development for Inclusive Practice Wider Professional practice 2 Optional modules The modules and learning outcomes present in each module are based on an analysis of the work of the teacher in post-compulsory education and training. These cover all the fundamental skills of teaching, the facilitation of learning and curriculum development. Two modules are devoted to practice in the workplace and others help develop knowledge and skills about individual growth, group dynamics, organisational behaviour and the needs of different client groups. ASSESSMENT Continuous assessment procedures apply. Each module requires the submission of a portfolio of evidence demonstrating appropriate knowledge and understanding abilities along with evidence of practical application. 120 CATS points are needed in order to achieve the Cert Ed i.e. you must achieve a pass for all modules. TEACHING PRACTICE The course involves a minimum of 75 hours of teaching practice per year. Please note: Achievement of this qualification does not confer Qualified Teadher Status for schools (QTS).

Applicants must be supported in the workplace by a specialist subject mentor. References will be sought as a part of the application process to confirm that the applicant is working as a paid teacher, with sufficient contracted hours to fulfill the course requirements. This qualification is designed for teachers working with post 16 learners.
