Course Content

To increase your employability and confidence, we place a stronger emphasis on teaching the practical application of knowledge and greater importance on the design, implementation and evaluation of control and instrumentation systems than other universities.

Teaching methods include lectures, practical design exercises, tutorials, resource-based learning, problem-based and enquiry-led learning and directed reading.

Years 1 and 2

Modules are designed to meet industry requirements and address real-world engineering challenges such as the fault-tolerant control of wind turbines, instrumentation for the biomedical sector, gas sensing and control of robotics. The core areas of study are instrumentation, robotics, automation and process control.

Final Year

You will undertake a major project in your final year, working at a professional level on an engineering problem, often alongside Chartered Engineers.
