Course programme
The staff use a variety of teaching methods to provide opportunities for interactive learning and active engagement, including teaching in lectures, workshops and in small seminar groups and tutorials.
As a joint student you take three core English first-year modules: introduction to literary studies; English Landmark Texts; and introduction to Renaissance literature. You also take three core music modules: Music, Criticism and Culture; music in practice; and creative music skills.
In your second and third years you choose three modules in both subject areas. In English, the only set requirement is that you study some pre-1800 and some post-1800 literary modules. In music, options include modules in musicology, performance (solo, ensemble, conducting), composition (instrumental, songwriting, film, electronic), technology, and other specialist areas including orchestration and arranging, psychology of music performance, and music industry studies.
