Course Content
  • Year 1

    In Year 1, you will study both subjects equally (2 units from each subject).

    The Economics units are:

    • Introduction to Microeconomic Principles
    • Introduction to Macroeconomic Principles

    The International Business units are:

    • Dynamic Business Environments
    • Understanding and Managing People
  • Year 2

    In Year 2, you can continue with equal study (2 units from each subject) or choose a major/minor route (3 units from one subject, 1 unit from the other subject). You must study the core unit from each subject.

    The Economics units are:

    • Principles of Economic Theory (core)
    • Current Issues in Economics (PDP)
    • Quantitative Analysis in Economics and Business
    • Schools of Political Economy
    • Economics of Corporate Finance
    • Quantitative Techniques

    The International Business units are:

    • International Business Theory and Practice (core)
    • International Marketing and Operations
    • Management and Organisation (PDP)
    • Work Based Learning
    • Ideas, Creativity and Entrepreneurship
  • Year 3

    In your final year you choose one of the following:

    • Continue with the equal or major/minor route you chose in Year 2.
    • If you chose equal study in Year 2 you can change to major/minor study.
    • If you chose major/minor study in year 2 you can change to equal study.
    • If you chose major/minor route in year 2 and International Business was your major, you can change to named route for International Business. You would then graduate with BA (Hons) International Business.

    The core unit for International Business is International Business Strategy and there is a wide range of option units on offer. The option units vary each year but an indicative list is:

    • Business Project
    • Project Management
    • International and Global Marketing
    • Economics and Business of the Asia-Pacific Region and Emerging Markets
    • America: Business and Culture
    • Business Ethics and Sustainability

    The core unit for Economics is Advanced Economic Strategy and there is a range of option units available. The units you can study will be influenced by your choice of study route (equal or major/minor) and, for some units, the grades you achieved in Year 2. The units are:

    • Econometrics: Analysis and Forecasting
    • Corporate Finance and Investment
    • Economic Applications and Practice
    • The Economics of Growth and Development
    • International Economics

    You can complete a final year project or dissertation. If you take equal study you can choose to do this unit in either subject. If you are taking a major or named route, this unit will come from the major or named subject.
