Course Content

In your first year you take practical modules covering topics in Music and Theatre performance, along with other options focusing on the integration of music and theatre as modes of performance and a general introduction to technical skills and stagecraft.

In your second year you take modules which expand your knowledge of contemporary music and theatre, while your Theatre and Music skills may be employed and developed working on practical projects alongside options which currently include: Instrumental Composition • Songwriting • Performance • Script Writing • Staging Musical Theatre • Production Management • Design Realisation • Commedia dell'Arte • Physical Theatre • Radio Drama.

The third year enables you to think more about specialisation, if you wish, in particular areas of music, performance, theatre or radio. Options currently include advanced topics in: Making Performance (practical projects) • Language of the Stage Space • Costume • Managing Theatre • Projecting Performance • Musical Theatre since the Millennium • Refiguring Antiquity • Body and Performance • Orchestration and Arranging • Psychology of Music Performance • Arts Enterprise • Composing for Stage and Screen as well as a dissertation option and specialist study options in a range of periods and styles of theatre and performance.
