The BSc (Hons) Accounting and Human Resource Management meets the needs of those wishing to pursue a career in business with an interest in Accounting and HRM as specialist areas. The programme allows students to combine two of the principle subject areas from the business arena and to develop the skills and expertise necessary for an aspiring professional career in Accounting or Human Resource Management. In addition it provides the basis for graduates wishing to take a postgraduate programme up to doctoral level.

Course Content The BSc (Hons) Accounting and Human Resource Management programme has three Accounting and three Human Resource Management modules in each academic year. Between first and second year students will have sampled the main disciplines of Accounting, Economics, Human Resource Management and Marketing.Year 1 contains six compulsory modules of study, including an extended induction and study skills module where you are introduced to university teaching and learning methods. This module helps you to prepare for the acquisition of the personal and interpersonal skills needed to enhance career opportunity. The first year modules provide a broad knowledge of business subjects as a sound basis for further study. The modules studied in first year are:Academic and Career Enhancement Skills, Introduction to Economics, Principles of HRM, Principles of Marketing, Principles of Accounting, and Principles of Management.In the second year students follow the Accounting modules of Management Accounting 1, Financial Accounting 2 and Business Law. The HRM modules are Business and Market Research, Employee Development and Organisational Behaviour.The third year may be spent undertaking a programme of work experience, usually of 48 weeks duration. Many students undertake their placement in the USA or the Republic of Ireland. Placement provides exposure to alternative business cultures and corresponding protocols. Successful completion of the placement year leads to the award of the Diploma in Professional Practice or a Diploma in International Academic Studies. In the final year students continue with the three Accounting modules of Management Accounting 2, Financial Accounting 2 and Financial Decision Making. The three Human Resource Management modules are Human Resource Strategy, International and Comparative HR and Business Strategy.
