Course programme
Four Business modules and two Computing modules are taken each year.
Year 1 contains six compulsory modules of study, including an extended induction and study skills module where you are introduced to university teaching and learning methods. This module helps you to prepare for the acquisition of the personal and interpersonal skills needed to enhance career opportunity. The first year provides a broad knowledge of business and computing subjects as a sound basis for further study in Year 2. Other modules studied in first year are: Information and Studies Skills Management, Business Information Systems, Database Systems, Economics, Marketing, and Principles of Management. Each subsequent year of study contains a core of four business modules combined with two additional modules from computing.
In the second year students follow the four general Business Studies path and take the two ICT specialism modules. The business related modules are Creative Thinking/Social Media for Business, Business Process Management, Applied Project Management and Business and Market Research. The computing modules are Computer Information Systems Technologies and Web Database Development.
The third year may be spent undertaking a programme of work experience, usually of 48 weeks duration. Many students undertake their placement in the USA or the Republic of Ireland which provides exposure to alternative business cultures and corresponding protocols. Successful completion of the placement year leads to the award of the Diploma in Professional Practice or a Diploma in International Academic Studies. In the final year students continue with business and computing modules such as Business Strategy, Innovation and Entrepreneurship, Financial Decision Making, Management of Change, Advanced Interactive Web Development and Knowledge Management.
