Course programme

Course Content

The course has a modular structure nominally comprising the equivalent of 18 modules with 4 modules taken in each of the academic years as shown below. Year 1 is a broadly-based introduction which underpins the core subjects of building technology and management, which receive greater emphasis as the course progresses. In the final year, project work predominates with modules such as Dissertation and Construction Project Management.

Year 1

You study: Building Science and Materials, Construction Mathematics, Construction surveying and Computer Aided Design, Sustainable Construction Technology, Construction Economics and Business Environment, and Building Structures.

Year 2

You study: Sustainable Construction Technology, Measurement and Cost Studies, Construction law, Building Physics, Building Production Management, Building Design and practice.

Year 3

Industrial placement year including one week survey camp and a health and safety course. Satisfactory completion of the year of placement leads to the award of the Diploma in Professional Practice (DPP) upon graduation.

Year 4

You study: Research and Dissertation, Construction Project Management, Building Assessment, Building Performance and Regulation, Construction Management and Professional Practice.
