The Operating Department Practice (Hons) course has been designed with a predominantly clinical focus in collaboration with local NHS trusts and The University of Hull is one of a select few higher education institutions offering ODP at degree level. Operating Department Practice students spend 60% of their time caring for patients before, during and after surgery on clinical placements; and 40% studying on campus.

Course programme

Course Content

This is a three-year full-time course which has been developed by the University of Hull in collaboration with the local NHS trusts and meets the growing demand for perioperative healthcare professionals in this area.

The programme consists of 17 compulsory modules (9 theoretical and 8 practice modules). Each module is assessed and the successful completion of all modules is necessary to attract the professional award.

Practice is an integral part of the programme and will be assessed during placements. While on clinical placement, you will be taught and supported by experienced practitioners, with time also set aside for study. Placements are undertaken within Hull and East Yorkshire NHS Trust, York Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and North Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Trust.
