The combined Psychology and Sociology degree at Hull allows you to develop the analytical and evaluative skills of a psychologist, as well as examining society as it is lived and experienced, in its complexity and cultural diversity. The study of psychology at Hull stretches back to 1928. Today we are a flourishing department with a superb record of expertise in teaching and research. You will also learn in the School of Social Sciences in which many of the sociology modules evolve from the staffs research interests.

Course programme
Since Psychology makes up the majority (70%) of your degree, you will study more modules in psychology than sociology over the course of your studies.
Year OneYou will develop a wide-ranging understanding of all the core areas of psychology as defined by the British Psychological Society, including: social psychology developmental psychology cognitive psychology biological psychology personality and individual differences conceptual and historical issues in psychology research methods.
Year TwoYou will build on your knowledge and skills by continuing to explore the core areas of psychology in greater depth and engaging in further practical work. You will learn through group lectures, tutorials, practical group work and computer workshops.
Year ThreeYou will select all of your modules, specialising in those areas of psychology that interest you or will assist you in pursuing a career route. In the first semester you will choose two modules from: Health Psychology Educational Psychology Work Psychology Forensic Psychology Neuropsychology Sports Psychology. In semester two, the choice of modules includes diverse subjects such as: The Social Brain Autism Educational Testing The Neuropsychology of Ageing and Dementia The Evolution of Animal Behaviour.
Modules are taught through classes, seminars and presentation groups and assessed through a range of written essays, reports and examinations.
