Course Details
Psychology is the study of the mind and the behaviour of individuals. The new A Level is split into two parts, AS and A2. The AS course is either the first year of the two year A Level, or the full AS Level. The following six topics are studied: Memory - how does it work? how accurate is i?, how can we improve it? Early childhood relationships and their possible effects, including the impact of day care Stress and how to cope with it How others influence our behaviour Mental illness and its treatment Research methods The AS examination consists of two, one and half hour papers sat together on a morning or afternoon, normally in May (50% of A Level marks).

Progression:
Successfully completing the AS modules allows progression to A2 and ultimately higher education. Category points for university can be claimed by successfully completing the AS modules. An AS qualification in psychology will also be useful for careers in health and social care and childcare.
