B.A. Sociology (Hons)

Our degrees are divided into Stages. Each Stage lasts for an academic year and you need to complete modules totalling 120 credits by the end of each Stage.

Please be aware that programme modules do change and therefore may differ for your year of entry.

Stage 1

Compulsory modules

• SOC1030 The Sociological Imagination: An Introduction to the Discipline

• SOC1031 Knowing in Sociology: An Introduction to Theory, Methods and Epistemology

• SOC1027 Comparing Cultures

• SOC1029 Doing Sociology

• SOC1033 Understanding Everyday Life

You also take a further 20 credits, which may be the module below, or from other subjects within the School of Geography, Politics and Sociology or other areas of the University:

Stage 2

Optional modules

You choose three optional modules from the following list:

• SOC2071 The Sociology of Childhood

• SOC2074 Spectacle, Image and Media

• SOC2082 Politics of the Arts

• SOC2084 Social Invention of Central Europe

• SOC2085 Refugees and Displacement: Borders, Camps and Asylum

Stage 3
