About BA Czech and Italian
Expertise in modern languages has never been more important as the United Kingdom forges a new relationship with its European partners and seeks to develop its trading and cultural ties throughout the world.
The University of Bristol offers a vibrant and stimulating environment in which to study modern languages and cultures at degree level.
Our Joint Honours Czech and Italian degree allows you to study two contrasting but pivotal European languages. Bristol has an enviable record for its research in Czech literature and Italian culture.
Italy is both traditional and modern, a tension that is apparent throughout its history and culture. Italy's innovative contributions to design, technology and fashion make it a major global commercial force.
The modern Czech Republic is at the heart of the expanded European Union and is set to remain a key strategic and trading partner of the UK.
You will take units in both languages in year one, and choose from a range of cultural, historical or literary options in years two and four. Your third year is divided between the Czech Republic and Italy, either at a university or on a work placement.
In language classes, you will develop speaking, listening, reading, writing and translation skills using a range of textbooks, media and internet resources.
