Course programme

Year 1

In your core modules, you will examine the key principles of human geography and their application to current issues within international development. You will select the remaining modules to reflect your own interests, choosing from topics such as natural resources, social anthropology, politics, the environment, media and economics. You will have the opportunity to participate in a weekend residential trip in the first year.

Year 2

You will continue to advance your knowledge of human geography and international development alongside practical field and research skills, including your use of GIS. The choice of optional modules is broad, meaning you can select modules which best reflect your developing interests or career aspirations. These include geography modules, topics across different fields of international development, and the opportunity to study a foreign language.

Year 3

In Year 3 there is a greater emphasis on independent study and employability. In addition to core modules and a residential field course, you will undertake a final-year dissertation on a topic of your choice. You are also offered the chance to complete a work placement at one of our many partner institutions and organisations both within the UK and abroad.

A full list of current modules we offer can be found here.
