BA (Hons) Accounting and Finance

Programme Overview

The programme is offered in the following modes of study: Full-time, Part-Time, at the LSM campus in Ealing, London.

The study of Accounting and Finance includes the study of different branches of accounting, including financial accounting, management accounting and financial management. It is concerned with the provision and analysis of information for a variety of decision-making, accountability, managerial, regulatory and resource allocation purposes.

Main educational aims of the programme

The main educational aims of Accounting and Finance are to provide you, the student, with opportunities to:

• Access a route to honours for students who have studied a cognate award equivalent to a higher diploma.
• Study for an honours Level III course that offers flexible delivery, supported by appropriate resources and guidance.
• Further develop transferable and cognitive skills in preparation for a variety of management-aligned careers or a higher award.
• Use accounting techniques for a variety of decision-making, control, accountability, managerial, regulatory and resource allocation purposes.
• Critically appraise financial and management processes, techniques and theories within a changing environment.
• Use this course to meet market demand for personnel with a background in accounting and finance.

Programme outcomes

Knowledge and understanding of:

• relevant accounting tools to support financial decision-making in the short and long term;
• application of multi-dimensional performance measures to business situations;
• the technical languages and practices of accountancy ;
• the provisions of International Accounting Standards as required for given scenarios;
• the importance of accountability and stewardship with reference to the financial management of a company;
• the influence of capital structures on shareholder returns;
• emergent accounting issues which impinge on accounting practice;
• the relationship between risk and return.
