Overview
There is an ever-growing demand in professional theatre for practitioners who have the versatility to combine top-level skills in acting with professional musicianship. This degree will enable you to develop industry-level skills as an actor alongside the ability to compose, musically-direct and play the music for the productions in which your appear.

During the first two years of your training you will study the work of a variety of European acting practitioners including:
Konstantin Stanislavski
Sanford Meisner
Uta Hagen
Katie Mitchell.
This work will be complimented by a fundamental musical training which will include classes in:
general musicianship
individual instrumental work
singing
acting through song
ensemble music-making.
As the course moves into the second year the focus in the acting modules will be on further and extended modes of performance – such as Epic Theatre, Restoration Comedy, Greek Chorus and Shakespeare. Your musical development will include the exploration of skills in musical direction, composition and the integration of acting and instrumental playing. You will also undertake classes to further develop your singing voice.

In the third year you will get the opportunity to promote your work to leading industry professionals in:
masterclasses
workshops
mock auditions
two major theatre productions
the West End agents’ showcase.
You will also be able to explore the skills required to make theatre for young audiences.

Entry requirements
You will need:
120-128 UCAS tariff points (or equivalent) normally in a minimum of two subject areas
GCSE English and Maths (grade A*-C) or Level 2 equivalent.
You are welcome to apply even if you don't have any formal qualifications. Your application will be considered on its individual merits taking into account your professional, work and life experiences and also your ability to engage with and benefit from the course. You must also show equivalent competencies in English and Maths.
