This subject-specific foundation year is an introductory programme of study attached to one of our four Art and Design pathways: 3D Design and Craft, Fashion and Textiles, Fine Art and Graphic Design and is designed for students who have already formed a clear specialist direction.

This educational route will accelerate students knowledge and understanding within one of the four distinct pathways:

  • Fine Art.

  • Three Dimensional Design and Craft.

BA (Hons) in Art and Design with Foundation Year Course Overview

During this foundation year, students will be introduced to essential skills and processes relating to the chosen subject pathway as well as aspects of drawing, researching and recording. Students will also build upon the personal skills needed to express and communicate ideas. On successful completion of the foundation year, subsequent years are as specified on the BA (Hons) Art and Design course description.

This programme is delivered using a combination of set projects, lectures, seminars, tutorials, demonstrations, theoretical and practical investigation, studio and workshop practice, exhibitions, field trips and self directed study.
