Cultural and Creative Industries - Graphic Design
Graphic Design Foundation Degree level 5(2010/2011)
Study Method:
Through seminars, practical workshops, work placements and exciting field trips, you will be given the tools to design 2D and 3D work, and enjoy your new confidence that your work and skills could help you to find employment.
Duration :two years
Who the Course is For:
You will be serious about finding employment in graphic design or its related pathways. You will be a creative who wants to be paid doing a job you enjoy doing. You will be passionate about taking on live work and seeing your creative ideas celebrated and used. You will enjoy graphic design debate, working independently and in teams. While there is a lot of tutition and support on this course you will need to show that you can work independently with intentionality and self-direction.
Assessment:
Assessment is through practical tasks and academic writing. There are no formal examinations on the programme. There are oppotunities to relate assessment tasks to your own research and career interests.
Course Leads To:
Direct progression to the third year of a B.A. (Hons) top-up year at UCA (university of the Creative Arts) is available or you may wish to progress onto other B.A. (Hons) programmes at another higher education institution. The programme also prepares you for employment in the cultural and creative industries through work placement and the creation of a graphics portfolio.
Entry Requirements:
Applicants will be at least 18 years old and should have at least one of these qualifications: National Diploma in Graphic Design or other art and design BTEC ND qualifications or 2 A levels (including a creative subject). Mature students with appropriate experience and educational attainment will also be considered. All applicants will be interviewed and given the opportunity to present a portfolio of their work.
Entry will be decided by interview and a portfolio of work must be seen.
Content:
Studying on the FdA will give you the opportunity to engage in a range of highly creative briefs, designed to challenge your skills in idea generation and design realisation. The course has been developed with the support of practicing industry professionals and aims to prepare you for a variety of different skills including typography, editorial, illustration, advertising and areas of digital media.
The first year of the programme will be tutor directed and you will be expected to become an independent practitioner over the two years of the programme.
The programme has been developed with the support of practicing professsionals and in partnership with UCA.
