About this course

5 GCSEs (A-C) or equivalent (preferably including English, Media/Technology), and at least one of the following or equivalent UK or international qualification: 2 A Levels (A-C); 4 AS Levels (A-C); 2 vocational A Levels (A-C); Level 3 Foundation Diploma or National Diploma; Advanced Diploma (A-C) or International Baccalaureate (24 points or above). Also, an interview and a portfolio, showreel or other indicator of creative or technical practice where appropriate.

Two Year Fast Track Degree Course

The BA (Hons) Content Development and Production is a practical, vocational production course that focuses on generating and developing ideas into professional and creative content for traditional broadcast programmes and multiplatform content.

The course is a two year fast track degree course that has been running successfully for over 10 years and with a solid record in gaining meaningful employment for its graduates.

The early part of the course develops practical operational skills alongside writing, research and content production making factual and drama content. It is unique in that it is a two year course that focuses on broadcast applications targeted to a specific audience or market and delivery is predominantly through project based learning. You will learn how to provide solutions to technical problems in a team-working environment and students make the most of Ravensbourne's industry-standard broadcast facilities.

Level 1

Builds a set of professional media, academic and business skills. Students are trained on operational and software skills and develop and produce several projects: a documentary, a drama and an interactive/ multiplatform project. Theory and knowledge about the business is embedded in practice and skills are delivered in a realistic industrial and professional context.

Level 2

Is designed to develop professional production practice through a range of academic, course specific and interdisciplinary production projects. This level allows students to specialise further and focus on developing context and understanding of the business and the industry.

Level 3

Develops professional practice through a range of independent learning, self-directed or self-initiated projects. Students complete a 7,000-9,000 word Dissertation, a major production unit and ideas focused units.

Graduates leave prepared for the job market with academic and research skills, a creative portfolio of work and a bank of developed content-focused and business-focused ideas.

In addition, each Level contains units in Contextual Studies, Enterprise and Entrepreneurship, and Personal and Professional Development to give you a rounded education that prepares you for professional life.

Assessment

You will be assessed through the completion of practical and written work including essays and a range of programmes, online and interactive content, presentations and project reports. The BA course centres around reflection on practice that will allow you to develop and improve and support to give you feedback to help you succeed.

Learning and Support

The course's learning and support methods aim to develop you both intellectually and professionally and provides a mix between academic, vocational and business skills.

You will learn through individual and group work through lectures, tutorials, workshops focusing on specific creative and production skills. The staff are all well-qualified professionals, including teaching and industry staff and guest speakers. Students have access to an impressive range of broadcasting facilities including professional audio and video studios, post production suites, a range of professional production equipment and transmission suites ready for traditional/digital and iPTV facilities.

Progression

Successful completion of this course can lead to the MA/MSc Broadcast Futures.

Payment of Fees

Students may pay fees either directly to the college or by applying for a tuition fee loan.

Where students are paying fees directly to the college, tuition fees are due in full at the start of the academic year or by the dates stated above if a discount is being claimed.

Where agreement exists to pay by instalments, fees are payable as follows:-

  • 40% of the tuition fee + registration fees (if applicable) + administration charge on enrolment.
  • 30% of tuition fee at the start of the second term.
  • 30% of the tuition at the start of the third term.

Should a student withdraw from a course during the year, tuition fees will be charged as follows:-

  • Withdrawal during the first two weeks nil
  • Withdrawal before 1st January First terms fees payable
  • Withdrawal on or after 1st January Full years fees payable
  • Where Registration fees are charged these are payable on enrolment at the start of the academic year and are not refundable.

Island Students (Channel Islands & Isle of Man): £TBC Arrangements can be made with the finance office to pay tuition fees in three termly instalments. There is an administration charge of 1% of the full year's tuition fee (minimum £20) for making this arrangement Tuition fees are subject to increase for subsequent years of the course.
