A creative and challenging course that develops the skills of performers to create original material and inspiring performances in a variety of venues.

The BA (Hons) in Creative Performance (Acting) is designed for students who are serious about acting whilst being able to appreciate the competitive environment of being a performer. The course provides you with a range of skills for sustainable employment within the performing industries with a focus on devising, improvisation and acting. You are encouraged to create theatre companies to produce your own work.

The course is intended to create more independent performers who are equally comfortable creating devised commissioned performances in unusual venues, such as a site-specific piece, as well as having the essential skills to perform on a more traditional stage. Creation of new and original work is a key element of the course without losing sight of the importance of established practitioners and their methods.

Therefore, the course provides students with the skills to act but will also nurture expertise that many actors use alongside performing professionally to sustain a career, such as directing, play writing, devising, workshop leadership and teaching.

The process pushes you in the right direction getting the best out of you, making you believe that you can do it.

Quotes by Directors
The Creative Performance degree is vibrant, practical/skill based and student focused. Having witnessed first-hand the impact that the diverse projects have on the students I would highly recommend it to prospective students and freelance directors alike. The course seeks to promote a sense of freedom and innovation at all costs. I work at a variety of drama schools across the country and consider the choice of modules and the ethos on the Creative Performance to be one of the best. The students are encouraged to be self-sufficient in their ideas and artistic creation which is an invaluable skill in preparation for the industry.Alice Robinson – Freelance Director, Performer
The Creative Performance degree is always a treat to teach on. Students are never afraid to challenge assumptions, and they are never short of creative ideas they have been nurturing outside of the rehearsal room. There’s always an eclectic mix in every group, and I always go away as an external director with a greater understanding of what makes students tick than any other institution at which I work.Rafe Beckley – Artistic Director-Red Table Theatre Co., Author, Freelance Director
I was thoroughly impressed with the way they went about the work, they were diligent, thorough, resourceful and creative. The presentation of their material was never boring and always enlightening. Everyone got a chance to create filmed material and perform in it as well as being involved in the live performance. They were extremely professional, organised and pro-active in developing and bringing together all the elements for the performance. The training they had received really prepared them well for this type of project and they understood the need to work as a team. The course appears to be very effective in educating young adults to be independent and in control of their destiny.Andrew Norton – Director “Methusalem” 2016 (Multimedia Performance Module in Year 3)
I think it’s fantastic that the students get to learn and practice different areas of performance and theatre creation. They get to work with a good mix of talented and committed staff as well as working regularly with outside directors who are also engaged in the professional world of theatre, television and music.Alex Wheeler – Freelance Director/Casting Director
