Students are assessed through both placement and academic element of the programme. All students have to evidence completion against the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) standards and the College of Social Work Professional Capabilities Framework. What can I do next Once you have completed this course successful candidates are eligible to apply to the HCPC for entry to the register as a social worker. You can then gain employment in areas such as children

The Professional Learner and Safe Practitioner:

This module gives an overview of social work, exploring what social

work entails, different settings for practice, and lays a foundation for

the place of law, theory and skills, as well as covering study skills to

help students meet the academic requirements of this course.

Skills Development:

This module prepares students for their first placement by providing

a structured opportunity to practice key generic skills and to

increase their understanding of the social work role.

Applied Psychology and Human Development:

The psychology module underpins knowledge of psychological

theory and explanations of human development with a strong

emphasis of how they relate to social work practice; such as

assessment, intervention, supervision and disengagement.

Sociology: Themes and Perspectives in Social Work:

This module aims to equip students with knowledge from the

field of sociology which underpins social work practice.

Ethics and Values of Social Work:

This module provides a framework for understanding the

operation of discrimination and oppression and looks at the

historical oppression of different groups within society.

Course overview Would you like to make a real difference to the lives of individuals, families and communities? Would you like to prevent harm, neglect and abuse? Our Social Work Degree will help you to develop your knowledge and understanding in the areas of social work law, practice, theory methods and values. You will develop your professional judgement and explore areas of human rights, social justice, and equality and diversity. You will have the opportunity to apply theory to practice by completing practice placements. Entry requirements For students that are under 21 years old, the entry requirements are; 96 UCAS tariff points, at least four GCSEs Grade C or above, including English and maths and at least six months relevant social care experience. We welcome applications from mature students and will base applications on an individual basis. Other conditions include a satisfactory health check, satisfactory enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check and confirmation of the ability to use basic IT facilities. In addition two references are required.
