Who is the course for?

This top-up degree is aimed at people wanting to work with children, young people and families. It covers a wide range of issues affecting children and families in today's society. You will gain a secure grounding in issues for all professionals working in multi-agency contexts with children and their carers.

Do I need any formal qualifications?

Foundation Degree in any of the following: * Children's Workforce Practice * Early Years Practice * Teaching Assistants * Any Level 5 qualification in working with children and/or young people would be considered.

What will I study on the course?

The Programme will require you to study the following modules across the year: * Personal and Professional Development in Leadership and Management * Multi-Agency Working in Safeguarding and Child Protection * Transitions in Children's Lives * Youth Justice * Dissertation

How is the course organised

Aa range of assessment methods will be used in order to support learners to meet the assessment requirements of the programme. these may include: * Essays * Presentations * Podcasts * E-portfolios * Posters All learners will be supported to understand and compose assessments as required. There are no examinations attached to the programme.

How will my progress be assessed?

Following the achievement of the Degree, learners could progress onto their teacher training or onto further HE programmes.

Can I gain any extra qualifications while on the course?

Learners securing this degree will be able to apply for a range of employment roles. These are very flexible due to the nature of the programme and the experience secured to date by individual learners. It would be expected that learners would aspire to management roles within their current or similar settings or may consider a change in direction, opting again for the senior/management roles available within the children's workforce.

What final qualification will I get if I am successful?

Certificate in Education (Cert Ed) & Professional Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) Lifelong Learning

Can I receive any financial support whilst I am studying?

Many of our learners study for free with a "Fee Waiver" when they are in receipt of qualifying benefits or studying a first full Level 2 or Level 3 qualification and meet age restrictions or are aged between 16-18. If you are not entitled to a "Fee Waiver" you may be entitled to receive Learner Support Funds to help with paying your course fees, or if you are aged over 23 and planning to study at Level 3 or 4 you will be able to apply for a 24+ Loan that cover all of your course costs. Higher Education learners are entitled to apply for HE Loans that cover the cost of tuition. In addition, depending on your chosen course of study and individual circumstances, you may be entitled to a maintenance loan.

Please note, from September 2016, anyone over 19 years of age can apply for a loan to cover all course fees for qualifying courses.

All learners can also apply for help with the cost of travel to college and the college may be able to help with the costs of childcare, travel, books, equipment and meals.

Please note for full cost courses funding may not be available.
