About the BA Tourism and Business Management Top up programme
The BA Tourism and Business Management (Top Up) has been developed to meet the educational and training needs for those who wish to progress beyond Foundation degree, particularly those with a tourism related qualification. There is a local need for this with the areas diverse tourism industry alongside both a national and international demand for educated tourism managers.

The aims of the programme are to enable the students to enter the dynamic tourism industry equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge, at management level.

Entry requirements For 2017 entry onwards: applicants must have 240 credits at level 4 and 5; e.g. Foundation degree in relevant area such as FD Tourism & Hospitality Business Management with a 50% average at level 5 (other than in mitigating circumstances which will be individually addressed). Students must also complete the Bridging Unit prior to commencing the programme; completion of this unit will ensure that students who may have been out of education for some time, or who achieved a level 4/5 qualification with no research element at level 5, are still able to commence their level 6 studies with confidence. Successful applicants can progress to Management Careers in Tourism, Local Authorities, Marketing, Attractions Management, Tour Operations, Private Sector Tourism, Operational Management, Teaching, General Management etc. Programme Benefits Upon successful completion of this degree, graduates will be equipped with the knowledge and skills to pursue a new career, or advance an existing one within the Tourism industry. Graduates will be able to pursue a wide range of roles within the tourism sector such as customer service roles within tourism, marketing for tourism, sales, product development for tourism/tourist attractions, IT and administration. All of these roles can be either deployed nationally or internationally. Graduates will also be able to seek senior positions within the generic tourism industry within hotels, holiday resorts and cruise ships. Learning & Teaching Methods Methods of learning and teaching are designed to support students in becoming active members of a learning community. Students will be expected to work together in an informal environment as well as in formal classes where a culture of dignity, courtesy and mutual respect with staff and their peers is essential. A variety of methods will be used such as lectures, seminars and workshops together with student-led presentations and self-directed learning tasks.
