Course programme

Nearly a quarter of all deaths involving vehicles at work occur while the vehicle is reversing. Many more accidents do not result in injury, but cause costly damage to vehicles, equipment and premises. Most of these accidents happen at low speeds and could be prevented by employing or training a banksman to keep the reversing area clear of pedestrians and to guide the driver of the vehicle.

Banksman training ensures that an organisation meets its legal requirements and reduces the risk of costly accidents when carrying out common, but dangerous, reversing manoeuvres.

This new corporate course is a cost-effective alternative for organisations wishing to train a sizeable number of employees, and who wish to have a staff member in-company who is qualified to deliver training to other members of staff.

What will the delegate bring back to the workplace?

An ability to educate others in the dangers of practical reversing techniques, and hand signals to reduce risks.

Course content includes:

  • Overview of the principles of effective training
  • Demonstration of HSE and Road Transport Industry Training Board recommended code of signals
  • Monitoring and assessing the performance of banksmen

This five-day course is available in-company, or at RoSPA's training centre.
