AIM
The aim of this foundation course is to develop a basic sound understanding of the concept of Acupuncture in relation to Traditional Chinese Medicine and Western Medicine.
OBJECTIVE
At the end of this 2 Module Course, each Physiotherapist should be able to:
- IDENTIFY and LOCATE Acupuncture points relevant to clinical practise
- PIERCE & INSERT needles SAFELY, into the patient’s tissues for the purpose of achieving pain relief, by observing hygienic procedures
- MANIPULATE the needles to achieve the best possible response when dealing with either ACUTE or CHRONIC MUSCULO-SKELETAL SYNDROMES
- LOCATE and SELECT the essential points in clinical practise
- DISCUSS the rationale (based on scientific evidence as well as clinical reasoning) underlying the criteria for point selection
- IDENTIFY the Indications and Contraindications of Acupuncture for safe and effective practice
- PROPOSE a Treatment Programme
- DECIDE the Treatment frequency, duration and progress
- RECORD the Treatment using acceptable notations
- ADVISE the patient on possible reaction/s following treatment
