The aim of the qualification is to provide the learner with the skills and knowledge to cut the hair using basic cutting techniques. There will be no theory or written tests.
The course will involve practical skills development on practice heads.

The skills developed by the learner will include:
- Current up to date cutting techniques
- One Length
- Long Graduation
- One Length Bob
- Uniform Layer
- Short Graduation
Progression onto other related courses (both full and part time) in hairdressing, beauty and holistic therapies.
City & Guilds Level 2 VRQ Certificate or NVQ Level 2 or equivalent salon/barbering experience, also suitable as a basic refresher course. Other qualifications will be considered as an entry requirement should someone wish to complete the qualification as a refresher and gain an up to date qualification.
