Course programme
Course Content:
This course covers the basic skills for collection of venous blood samples from the arm and incorporates the competencies set out in the CHS132, the National Occupational Standard for Phlebotomy written by Skills For Health.
On successful completion delegates will be equipped with the underlying theory and skills to gain competence under clinical supervision by a practitioner in their own workplace. Each delegate will receive a course workbook which requires twelve competency trials to be approved by a Clinician (Doctor, Nurse or qualified Phlebotomist). Once returned to the centre, delegates will receive a Certificate of Competency.
Delegates will:
- Demonstrate an understanding of the vascular anatomy of the arm
- Perform and be aware of the dangers and complications of this invasive technique
- Safely work towards competence in phlebotomy
Additional information
Candidates need no previous experience or qualifications but must be able to complete the competency trials under clinical supervision. Students or those who are currently unemployed or seeking a change of career can attend the course, but should approach a suitable practice to gain experience for their competency trials. We are unable to source this for you.
