Overview:

We will take you through subtractive lighting, where some stunning results can be achieve using lighting that is already available to us, i.e. natural light. A course that will not disappoint. We will pass on 40 years of experience in lighting during this time.

Lens lecture on "The Art of Lighting a Wedding" is not to be missed.

Itinerary:

Day One

09.30 What do you want from the course.

09.45 Introduction and outline.

10.00 Bateman Studios. 35 years of running three very successful studios. We will show you ways of getting started with many money making ideas.

11.00 What makes a good wedding photographer. An insight into why some photographers make good wedding photographers and others not.

11.15 Coffee Break.

11.30 A look at equipment, types of cameras and which are best for weddings. We will be looking at other equipment, such as tripods, flash and back up gear.

12.00 Taking a look at lighting using flash, demonstrating fill, diffused and direct flash together with balancing flash with daylight.

12.30 Practical demonstration using flash, looking a lighting indoors using our own studio.

13.30 Lunch, an hour spent in one of the many eating places around Milford Marina. Time to relax and take a look at some of the shops.

14.30 Questions on lighting, with demonstration of fill flash outdoors and balancing flash with daylight. Use of models supplied.

15.00 Break.

15.15 Demonstration of Photoshop, looking at working with levels and adjustments. We will also be looking at some of your work that you have taken so far.

16.00 Question time. At this point you will be given some work to do tonight in your own time for us to take a look at in the morning.

Day Two

09.30 Looking at some of the tasks set from yesterday

10.00 Planning a wedding. Taking a look into some of the planning that goes into the wed ding day by starting months before the day itself. How we can make the job much easier, working out in advance our exposures and places to take each of the images on the day.

11.00 Coffee Break.

11.15 Looking at an introduction into outdoor lighting, how we can use this during the day itself, without ever using a light metre.

12.00 Visit a church to look at areas for photography. Practical work with models supplied for you to get some hands on experience. We will be looking at posing and order of images taken during an actual wedding day.

13.00 Lunch, an hour spent in one of the many eating places around the waterway.

14.15 Looking at outside lighting after lunch with some more hands on experience. Here we will be showing you the use of soft lighting that we can find at the church and at the reception. This lighting will give you much better results, its simple, its easy but only if you know how!

15.00 Arrive back at the centre. Break.

15.15 Comments on some of the work taken and taking a look at the effects of the lighting that we used both at the church and on location.

16.00 Question time.
