UKCC Level 2

This level of coaching qualification provides a prospective coach with a general overview of all aspects of basketball and sports coaching and enables the holder the ability to work independently to plan, deliver and review basketball coaching sessions without supervision. On successful completion of the courses, candidates should be able to:

Profiles of the new UKCC Level 2 Basketball Coaching Qualification Candidates
This level of coaching qualification provides a prospective coach with a general overview of all aspects of basketball and sports coaching and enables the holder the ability to work independently to plan, deliver and review basketball coaching sessions without supervision to individuals, groups (male, female, adults or children) and people with particular needs. Examples of persons likely to be interested in gaining this qualification are: - Coaches making a regular commitment to one particular team; experienced players or sports students, Club coaches, including player-coaches, School teachers using the game to deliver parts of the National Curriculum in PE and/or coaching school teams in extra curricula competitions; Level 1 Coach Award holders who wish to improve their knowledge of basketball, and Physical Training Instructors in H.M. Services.

The holder is covered by Basketball‟s insurance for working unsupervised provided they affiliate with their respective basketball Governing Body.

Course Tutoring
Only Basketball Approved and Licenced Tutors and Assessors may deliver courses for the UKCC Level 2 Coach Qualification.

The UKCC Level 2 Coaching Qualification Course Syllabus will cover

plan a series of coaching sessions:
-reviewing participants‟ needs
-produce plans for a series of sessions that support participants‟ development
-plan for an evaluation of the series of sessions
prepare the coaching environment for the delivery of coaching sessions
-establish a safe coaching environment
-prepare participants for the series of coaching sessions
deliver a series of coaching sessions to develop participants‟ performance
-establish and maintain working relationships with participants and others
-deliver coaching sessions
-develop participants‟ performance
-conclude sessions

monitor and evaluate coaching sessions and personal practice:

-evaluate participants‟ performance and the effectiveness of sessions
-monitor personal coaching practice

Practical Syllabus and Assessment
Candidates will be required to demonstrate an understanding and application of coaching the following Basketball techniques in an appropriate environment, as outlined (for a coach at this level) in the Basketball Health and Safety Guidelines for Coaching. The assessment of the Practical Syllabus will be assessed by the course tutor on one 20 minutes coaching session providing a good demonstration of the basic skills of basketball. In addition a 90 minutes written multiple choice/short answer paper will be conducted to assess candidates‟ knowledge and understanding. An independently assessed 20 minutes coaching session and completion of the candidate pack (log book)
