Brochure Description
This is a full day workshop that will cover basic techniques used to design and make beaded jewellery such as necklaces, bracelets, earrings and much more. This course will cover looping, scrolling, and making hooks and clasps as well as stringing and using a wire jig.

No previous experience necessary.
How will I learn?
Tutor demonstrations and course handouts
How will I know that I am making progress?
Learning logs, photographs of work progression and tutor assessment.
Will there be homework? If so how much/how many hours?
No homework but optional reading and technique practice from home is encouraged.
Will there be additional costs?
Yes materials such as beads and wire will be made available to purchase from the tutor during sessions. This cost will vary based on individual’s choices of materials but as a guide £5 will cover initial plated practice wire and glass beads. Alternatively wire and beads can be brought from home or local tool or bead shop please see equipment below.
Do I need specific equipment or clothes?
Yes, please bring these items from home, if you can. Most people will have some of these items in their garage or tool box.
• Chain nose (pointed) pliers (teeth in jaws are best avoided but can be worked around)
• Round nose pliers
• Wire Cutters
• Flat nose pliers (nylon coated are best)
• Sandpaper (220,400,800 grit) or alternatively emery files for fingernails
• Wire (copper, brass, silver or plated)
• Beads (new or recycled/broken necklaces with beads), if you have them or can be purchased from the tutor
Please note there will only be a few pairs of pliers above available to share so bringing your own will allow more freedom both in and out of class time. Other tools such as mallets, hammers, flat stakes, crimping pliers, and hand drill will be provided. If you do want to use skills learned in class at home it is recommended you have your own set of pliers. A great way to purchase this is in a beaders “set” and will cost from £7 plus VAT. Beadsmith brand come in a zip up protective case and offer great value for beginners.

From Joss Lane car park continue along Main Street and take 1st left into New Street. The Methodist Hall is at the far end on the right. Limited parking at hall. Park in Joss Lane car park in the town centre. Access through main entrance, hall is on left.
Additional information
Please add a £2 annual centre fee if this is your first course since September 2009. This fee is payable once per person per year. Please make cheque payable to “Cumbria County Council”.
