Course Overview
This course is for people who wish to pursue a career in Beauty Therapy and progress to Level 2. Students will need to participate in all class activities and maintain a high level of attendance.

Who The Course is for
This course offers a Level 1 provision for anyone wishing to pursue a career in Beauty Therapy.
Course Content
On the first year of this course, you will study NVQ Level 1 in Beauty Therapy plus relevant key skills (at the appropriate level).
The course includes both practical and theory sessions, practical areas being performed working in the college Beauty Salons covering a range of practical skills in the following areas:
- Health & safety
- Reception duties
- Assist with facials
- Assist with nail treatments
- Understanding the beauty therapy industry
- Key Skills
- Homework
Optional enrichment courses and trips may be available to full time students at an additional cost. Details will be available from the course leader.
All students must purchase relevant kit from the beauty therapy department. Costs will be discussed at enrolment and during the college induction. Students will be required to carry out treatments on the general public who book in as clients at our reception area. On occasion you will also need to provide a paying model for your practical assessments.
All students must wear the college uniform, which is:
- Long smart black trousers (Purchased by student)
- College tunic (Purchased from the department)
- Low heeled full black smart shoes (Purchased by student)
- Students will be required to remove all visible jewellery including facial piercing during all practical sessions (due to awarding body requirements) and have short nails with no nail polish.
Mobile phones must not be accessed in classrooms and salons unless permission has been sought from the course leader.
If the above is not adhered to you will be asked to leave the salons.
A certain level of manual dexterity will be required for this course.
Entry RequirementsLearning & Assessment Methods
Assessment is by practical observation, oral questioning, case studies, written essential knowledge papers, assignments and end examination set by the examination awarding body. An internal/external examiner will assess all portfolio evidence and practical skills.
Qualifications Gained
Successful students will gain:
Beauty Therapy NVQ Level 1 (VTCT)
Dermatology (City & Guilds)

Progression Opportunities
If you successfully complete NVQ Level 1 and progression criteria which will be made available during your NVQ 1 course you could continue your studies by taking the Beauty Therapy NVQ 2 or Nail Services.
Career Opportunities
As this is just a foundation to Beauty Therapy, candidates would need to progress onto another Beauty Therapy or Nail programme.

If you are 16-18 years old you do not have to pay course tuition fees*.
