The course is designed to give students a good grounding in French. The main aim of the course is to build student's confidence so that they feel capable of carrying out daily tasks and holding basic conversation in French. Students will also be given a very good understanding of basic grammar. Suitable for: The course is suitable for those who own holiday homes in France or travel to French speaking countries and want to be able to carry out everyday tasks in French whist holding basic conversations with locals. The course is also ideal for those simply wanting to learn for pleasure. The course is suitable for those who wish to learn in a group environment and thoses who enjoy classroom interaction with students of a similar level.

About this course

No prior knowledge of French is required. We ask only that students have plenty of enthusiasm and a genuine desire to learn the language. Students will need to attend 1 x 90 minute class per week (weekday evening) and completion of homework is essential to make the very most out of the course.

Course programme

This course is designed to give students an intoroduction to the language. There is a maximum of 6 students per group so good progress is guaranteed. This group course allows students of similar level to mix in a classroom environment. Through role plays amongst students this course is designed with the objective of building the confidence of students so that the feel confident speaking in French when having to carry out basic tasks or hold basic conversations with native speakers.
During the course students should expect to cover the following areas.

  • talk about themselves, interests & background
  • Book/check in to hotels
  • Find your way around abroad and ask directions
  • Change money
  • Buy gifts/food /clothes in shops
  • Order drinks & food in restaurants
  • Buy train/bus/plane tickets
  • Basic telephone skills

    Students will also be give a very sound foundation in French Grammar covering just some of the following areas

  • Introduction to the Present, Past & Future tenses
  • The definite and indefinite article
  • Adjectival agreements
  • Pronouns
  • Word order

    Listening activities will also be carried out using Cds and prounciation will also be focused on.
    The majority of the teaching is conducted in the target language and the teacher is a native speaker
