Course Overview:
In this course you will look first at why organisations need people to act as leaders, at the links between authority and responsibility, and at the importance of integrity, fairness and consistency.
In Topic 2, you will look at the roles of the leader. How does leading differ from managing? What leadership styles may people use, and how can you select the most suitable leadership style for a particular situation?
Topic 3 then looks at ways in which a leader can build a culture of trust and respect within the team, motivate and develop each team member, and ensure that the team members work together to achieve their personal and organisational goals.

Progression Opportunities:
Candidates who successfully complete this course may be interested in developing their learning further by undertaking the Level 3 Certificate or Diploma in First Line Management.
Entry Requirements:
There are no formal entry requirements but you should be working as a first line manager or thinking of becoming one. You should allow 25 hours' study time, plus extra time for completing assignments.

Course programme
Course Delivery:
The course is delivered over five sessions by the tutor; candidates will be expected to spend time on structured learning such as directed assignments, supported individual study or practice. This does not include private study.
You will be assessed by means of an assignment set and marked by the Institute. The assignment is designed to test candidates’ knowledge and understanding of the whole qualification. To achieve this qualification, candidates must meet all of the learning outcomes.
This unit is worth six credits towards either the Award, Certificate or Diploma in First Line Management.
